Advanced Wound Therapy
When Advanced Therapy Helps
Most wounds heal on the strength of the fundamentals: a clean wound bed, the right dressing for the moisture level, infection control, offloading pressure from the area, and consistent follow-up. When those basics are in place, the body usually does the rest.
Advanced therapies enter the picture when wounds plateau, when there's complex tissue loss, or when standard care has been tried for long enough that it's clear something more is needed. Used at the right moment, on the right wound, they can shorten healing time significantly. Used by default, they add cost and complexity without adding much benefit.
What We Offer
Modern Modalities, Used Thoughtfully
We evaluate every wound to see whether advanced therapy is actually indicated — and just as often, whether it isn't. The goal is the right tool for the wound in front of us, not the newest tool on the shelf.
When something is recommended, we explain it in plain language: what the therapy does, what it costs, what the evidence shows, and how we'll know if it's working. You shouldn't need a medical background to understand your own treatment plan.
We coordinate with insurance to check benefits before starting, and with other specialists when an advanced therapy touches their world — vascular, infectious disease, surgery, endocrinology. The plan stays in one place even when several clinicians are involved. Care is delivered at our Albuquerque clinic for outpatients and at the bedside for patients in skilled nursing facilities, LTACHs, and home-health settings.
Modalities
Advanced Therapies We Offer
Bioengineered dressings
Engineered matrices and antimicrobial dressings selected to match each wound's stage and microenvironment. Used as part of a phased plan, not a one-size-fits-all product.
Sharp debridement
Advanced dressings only deliver their benefit when the wound bed is properly prepared. Skillful, knowledgeable sharp debridement is what makes biologics, amniotic grafts, and skin substitutes actually work — and it's why these therapies belong in surgeon-led hands.
Biologic & amniotic skin grafts
Advanced regenerative grafts can substantially accelerate healing in chronic and complex wounds when paired with the appropriate debridement procedure and applied by a surgeon trained in graft technique.
Evidence-First
We Don't Use Advanced Therapy By Default
These therapies are powerful when they're matched to the right wound — and not particularly helpful when they're not. That distinction matters, both clinically and financially. We'd rather take an extra visit to be sure a therapy fits than start something that wasn't going to help in the first place.
Before recommending an advanced modality, we explain the why: what we've already tried, what we think it'll change, and what we're going to be watching for. If something isn't moving the wound after a fair trial, we change course rather than doubling down.
