Why Choose Us

Wound Care, Done Right the First Time

Choosing where to take a slow-healing wound matters. Here's how Nexcell is different from a hospital wound center, a primary care visit, or a generalist clinic.

Six Reasons

What Makes Nexcell Different

Specialty Focus

Wound care is the entire practice. Not a side service. Every visit is built around healing the wound in front of us.

Surgeon-Led

Care is directed by Dr. Christopher Dominguez, a board-certified general surgeon, and the Nexcell clinical team. Every plan is surgeon-supervised — at the bedside or in our clinic.

Measured Progress

Standardized assessment and measurement at every visit so you can see whether the plan is working.

Coordinated With Your Other Doctors

We talk to your primary care, endocrinologist, surgeon, and home health agency — and we send you and them visit notes.

Same-Week Openings

Most new outpatient referrals are seen at our Albuquerque clinic within a few business days. Bedside SLBT rounds run on a recurring schedule at every partner facility.

Self-Referral Welcome

You don't need a referral to be seen. Tell us about your wound and we'll take it from there.

What to Expect

Your First Visit at Nexcell

We start with a thorough intake — your wound history, overall medical history, current medications, and any previous treatments. Bringing a list of your medications and any prior wound notes helps us plan quickly.

Next is the physical exam. We document the wound with photography and standardized measurements so we have a clear baseline. We also assess circulation, sensation, and the surrounding tissue.

Finally, we walk through the plan together: the dressings you'll use, how often we'd like to see you, what to do at home, and what would count as progress. You'll leave knowing exactly what comes next.

Built for Healing

A Pace That Matches Your Wound

Most patients are seen weekly or biweekly early in treatment, when measurement and dressing changes matter most. As the wound improves, visits naturally space out.

When in-person isn't necessary, telehealth follow-ups keep the plan moving without an extra drive. We'll always tell you which kind of visit makes sense next.

Insurance & Payment

Accepting Most Major Plans

Nexcell accepts most major insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicare Advantage. Coverage varies by plan and procedure — we recommend calling our office to verify your specific benefits before your first visit.
