Caring for Your Wound at Home
General principles
Keep the wound and surrounding skin clean and dry. Change dressings on the schedule we give you, wash your hands before and after, and protect the wound from bumps, friction, and pressure.
What to avoid
- Hot tubs and swimming pools (until cleared)
- Smoking (slows healing)
- Tight bandaging
- Skipping dressing changes
Watching for problems
- Increasing redness or warmth around the wound
- Spreading red streaks
- Foul odor
- New or increased drainage
- Fever
- Severe pain
- The wound getting larger or deeper
When to call us
If you notice any of the warning signs above — or anything that just doesn't feel right — call the office at 505-624-8340. We'd rather hear from you than wait.
Telehealth Follow-Ups
For established patients with stable wounds, we offer telehealth follow-ups — useful for photo-friendly check-ins and quick plan updates. We'll send a secure video link before your visit; no special apps needed.
Pharmacy & Supplies
Prescriptions can be filled at your preferred pharmacy. Most dressings are obtained through your pharmacy or home health agency, and we'll provide written instructions whenever supplies are ordered through home health.
Records, Refills, & Forms
Request records by fax to (505) 732-6298, email to hello@nexcell.org, or in person at the front desk. Prescription refill requests are easiest through your pharmacy. For FMLA, disability, or other paperwork, please allow several business days.
